Golden forest

Yellow, mellow, ripened days,
Sheltered in a golden coating;
O'er the dreamy, listless haze,
White and dainty cloudlets floating;
Winking at the blushing trees,
And the sombre, furrowed fallow;
Smiling at the airy ease
Of the southward-flying swallow.
Sweet and smiling are thy ways,
Beauteous, golden, Autumn days!..

The House Where We Were Wed
by Will Carleton

My mother often told me that Fall was her favourite season. Admiring the beauty of autumn forest I still thought that it was a bit too sad to be in such favour. Personally, I always preferred spring. But time passes. I am no longer the person I`ve been 20 years ago. Somehow, I see it in a good way.

Fairies who live in autumn forests are not the same as the summer ones. They dress up in red, purple and gold (obviously!). Their songs are long, quiet and usually in a minor key. As there is much more clearance between the tree branches in the fall autumn fairies are also more transparent and evasive than their rowdy summer relatives.

This is one of the games they play - catching discreet angled sun rays and throw them through the golden foliage straight into someone's eyes. And while a person stands blinking at shiny yellow curtains of dry leaves, fairies jump and dance unnoticed right in the front.

My plan was simple really - to return back their own trick. I made those shiny sun-catching earrings - clear as crispy September mornings - with golden plated findings, small pretty leaves and heather branches. Once you wear those, the earrings will capture some autumn sunlight and cast little beams here and there. With a bit of chance, I`m sure, you will soon be able to spot a fairy blinded for a moment in the plain sight.

After all, a game is only a game when both sides are playing!
